Day 42 Hawaii

The royal Hawaiian family originated from the Maui Island area called Hana where waterfalls, magical natural pools, and two of the most beautiful Hawaiian beaches reside.

I was fortunate enough to meet Akua and his family and be shown around the taro patches where he worked as a child, the home walls where his artist grandfather carved forms, and to see a large portion of the island through a Native Hawaiian’s eyes. Akua, Dan, and I are pretty service-oriented so this means that when we’re in the parks we allow the other touring parties to go in front of us, or even spotting them among the rocks…and naturally, I’ll sing and play a few tunes on the ukulele.

From time to time, Akua, Dan, and I…we still hang out, cook bean noodles, tell Dan not to do the Yemen courting chicken dance (I just avert my eyes while Akua is visibly turned inside out by the whole ritual and audibly emits groans), and I work on my jewelry/art while they do their own thing(s).

Needless to say, it’s all very platonic and since I’m boring and steady, I get to be the driver behind the wheel and apply my jewelry and music making skills and awareness towards how much gas to give the accelerating pedal and brake.

Now, I’m not saying that no one underwent various stages of what the French call, “vomir”, and I’m certainly not saying that it was both of them at alternating times, with one silently snickering at the other.

Non, I’m just saying that I drove the winding miniature-Pacific-Coast-Highway in a very good mood, along with singing at top volume to the other cheery human of the three, and from time to time texting an Austin man-friend while us Hawaiians (particularly the not-so-cheery one in the car) got some fresh oxygen and stillness.

The top photo is a photo of jackfruit and breadfruit (ulu) which I brought to Maui’s 24 Hour Fitness where I just embarked on as a part-time Elite Trainer…the fruit was gathered from Akua’s Makawao yard…and much later another jackfruit was sampled from a slowly-simmering-future-fruitarian called Akua (“hey, this tastes pretty good!”)…and in the meanwhile it’s fun to share ridiculously heavy tropical fruit with new Maui friends/colleagues.

It’s weird to be back into both athletics and merge it somehow with my music life…and I feel that might be helpful in terms of my life’s longevity. Music and movement go together like pb and j. , maybe even better on a spiritual-injected place like Maui…more like rice and nori…

Tomorrow’s my 49th birthday and I’m glad I’m getting back into acrobatics/gymnastics, and doing loose pique turns across an empty yoga studio…this along with backbends and such…motions that I’m regaining from my pre-nde times…more than ever I value my ability to go here and go there.

I’m grateful.

Hawaii

Sunset at Maui’s Secret Beach…and yes, this Helenbobelen sang and played songs for her new friends here in Hawaii…

As evident from this blog, I love Austin…and yet I moved to Austin supposing that I’d end up in Hawaii. After about 2 years of Texas time, my beloved Sophia-the-cat transitioned at October’s end, healthy, drug-free, and vaccine-free…and so after about a month or so with her body interred and soul intact in a wonderful place, I got an inkling to go forward and fly to Maui.

So here I am and what this means is that your earrings and my music will touch upon this Earth’s corner.

While I’m here, I plan to create numerous pairs of Earth-friendly/Certified Conflict-free Sterling Silver Thinnest And Strongest Thin Hoop Earrings, along with the modular Hoop Earrings Components that you can pre-order and each pair will have portions created on Hawaii’s beautiful sand beaches…

…maybe when you wear these earrings, you can hear the gentle and silent aloha breeze…

And as usual, for every Helenbobelen.com purchase, proceeds and/or a pair of Sterling Silver Thinnest and Strongest Thin Hoop Earrings and/or music will be donated to a 501c3.

(Thank you/mahalo to everyone in Austin, including Wilder Wood Restaurant and Casa De Luz for the music stages before I left…thank you/mahalo to Austin Food Company and Bennu for the amazing complimentary food and drink…and thank you/mahalo to all the kind Austin people who supported me and my work-play in so many different ways…)

And thank you for your continued purchases and support. I so appreciate you.

Love,

Helen

“Dear Helen: The earrings are beautiful. Exactly the size I wanted and the look. Pure and simple, so gorgeous. Thank you for knowing how to make them and help protect the earth at the same time. They came beautifully wrapped and when I saw them, it was such a thrill to get what I was hoping for. They are strong which is what I wanted. I have small ears so the size is perfect. Thank you again, for the beautiful earrings, wrapping, and all that you do. I am thrilled with the earrings.” — r.j.
