Day 81 Maui Springtime

Paia Beach yesterday
Artbooks 6 (and a glimpse of Artbook 7) and H.M. Suh Lee’s/ Helenbobelen.com’s Sterling Silver Thinnest And Strongest Thin Hoop Earrings in Grand
Friends of the Childrens Justice Center because who doesn’t love children or justice for that matter… in my lifetime, I’ve seen justice and karma prevail time and time again…
Another Paia Bay Photo…is it possible that each wave is different and one-of-a-kind? Like snowflakes? Like this Hbb’s artbooks? Like you? And yet all the waters are one.

So, as you know, I lost my beloved flip phone next to Hana Highway and now I have a smartphone that takes, uh, much better photos. So, you’ll see more Thinnest And Strongest Thin Hoop Earrings (and art) photos. And you might hear from me less often on the telephono because of all of the above (not to mention that I’m training two 80-ish year olds for VIP athletic events — Senior Olympics! –and two handfuls of other smart, funny, and pioneering people on challenging but essential muscle maneuvers such as scapular retraction…yes, I’m a total gym nerd…).

Music is still much a part of my life. Yesterday, I met Leonardo from Mexico at a bus stop and we exchanged songs and views on things like reggaeton and cumbia (we both preferred that latter as the former probably derives from the latter).

“You do all the good things and I’m offering you the bad things…” said Leonardo as I turn down his offer to get beers and other such.

I just shrug…I already have plans and those closest to me know that my life is packed with art/music/movement/charity activity or just lounging on the beach…so much so that I don’t sleep very much. I don’t tell him that I once died and that each day means an opportunity to do things I love to do, to be with other people who value their own lives, people who take care of themselves, and desire to inspire other people.

(I also omit the part where I have a royal family middle name…that’s just between you and I…)

Anyhoo, I’m off to do, you know, stuff…and things…and more stuff…and meditate. My taxes have been filed and paid. I’ve died, too…so I walk courageously into my day and hangout in the Maui sunlight…

Love,

Helen

P.S. From now until April 30th, for every Helenbobelen.com purchase, an Artbook or pair of Dainty Sterling Silver Thinnest And Strongest Thin Hoop will be donated to a 501c3.

Artbook #6

Last night, I ran into two young and inquisitive women as I was producing Artbook #6 (and Artbook #7!) and ended up selling one of these artbooks to C.S. who said, “I love this creativity!”

We chatted for a long while and discovered we actually knew someone in common…en plus, C.S. is familiar with the 5 Tibetans and all three of us are vegans.

Hawaiian isle synchronicity…it was a nice surprise gathering.

I’ve yet to place these in the art shop as I continue to tweak the prints and process, not to mention price, but it’s been a lot of fun. Thank you for all the positive feedback on Artbook #6.

Aloha,

Helen

Day 73: Daily Beach Life Continued and Some Bird Art…

Paia Beach yesterday…untouched photo…
Paia Beach today…
Paia Bay Coffee House…right now…with Shelby behind the bar…she and I met somewhere else and I know she knows Arlan…but we can’t figure where we met…Temple of Peace? Charley’s? Ah, I think it was Mana Foods…
A quick photo of a Kahalui Whole Foods “Pigeon”…I have no idea of his/her name…yes, I gave it some oats…my artbook models are well-fed…
The start of interesting…admittedly, at this point it looks rather insignificant (Auka has now learned that if you go beyond this point, and NOT judge it, and add depth through shading…that the drawing magically improves…)
Ok, so I finished it, but found that when I turned over the page, the reverse looked a little more, I dunno, a little “profound” (if you don’t like it, ok…if you like it, I do see orbs in my hands as I create so I can’t say that I’m not really doing anything accept hanging loose…and using my discernment to measure distances and light/greyscale values). I’ll be be creating Artbook #6 with this picture and some orange cotton thread. Each booklet is one-of-a-kind in picture arrangement/construction…and I’ll do my best to place some in the artshop…
Oh, here they are — a few more touch ups on the bird…and the aforementioned orange cotton thread…for some reason, I keep thinking these would make a nice modern design for bank cheques…or for fabric as an updated “toile” pattern…or just, hey, Artbook #6. Thank you to Maui for inspiring me, for making me love you as this Helenbobelen does.
One of my favorite 501c3s…

Every time that I’ve taken the #35 bus to Paia this past week (at least 4 times), I see that Auka’s on the same bus. I tell him to stop following me (and he says the same thing) which is funny because we don’t really hang out together…it’s only thanks to Maui public transportation that our deeper conversations take place; at various bus stops, with a perpetually late bus, we also run into each other and we discuss art and the Hawaiian nation status… I leave shared art projects with notes on the heavy table outside his bedroom for him to comment/sign…he leaves his writings and favorite Ernest Holmes tome there for me to read…he’s slowly going vegan like a few other men in my life (I’ve never asked them to go vegan)…and I sometimes catch a ride with him back to Makawao with his mom, Lisa where his words are few.

Surfers at Paia Beach today…

I’m doing my best to go to the beach everyday…which is kind of a comical goal for me because it’s about being alone and doing nothing but maybe napping, watching the waves, the surfers (if it’s Paia), and getting the non-porcelain suntan that a lot of old-school-Asians abhor. Since I’m dairy-free and pretty much hydrated (not to mention, Asian,) my skin remains okay, even without sunblock…I’m lucky…my knee is thankful…

Okay…I’m going to make a point of visiting Shelby (hey, Shelby!) at the Makawao farm where she lives…

Keep Paradise paradise…

Love,

Helen
